The General Tire and Rubber Company was founded in 1915 by William O’Neil and Winfred E. Fouse in Akron, Ohio, the rubber capital of the world. An early tire that General Tire released was the General Balloon Jumbo, a pneumatic truck tire that required only 12 pounds of air pressure. In 1955, General Tire entered the passenger car OE tire market as the tire supplier for General Motors.
